Nick Abraham
Experience
With a rich history of clinical experience, I am devoted to helping others discover and unlock their true potential. My work experience has afforded me the privilege of working with clients from various multi-cultural backgrounds who have struggled with addiction, trauma, PTSD, C-PTSD, and mood and anxiety disorders. I have worked in residential treatment centres, outpatient clinics and at the community level throughout Canada and the United States. I have been blessed to have played a role in the transformational process of hundreds of people.
I use a trauma informed, psychodynamic approach that allows me to explore how early life experiences have contributed to present day beliefs and behaviours. I use CBT and DBT modalities to help clients identify and change unhelpful thought patterns, manage overwhelming emotions and build healthier relationships. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is paramount in creating a recipe for change. I welcome people from all walks of life and strive to create a space where everyone feels seen, heard and valued.
Education
I hold a Master of Arts in Addiction Counselling from the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School in Minnesota. I am a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) with the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction (IITAP) in Arizona, having studied under Dr. Patrick Carnes and Dr. Ken Adams. I am trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) - a trauma therapy used to reduce the impact of trauma, stress and other mental health issues.
Accreditation/Licensing
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). I adhere to ethical standards and a clinical code of conduct by providing evidence-based therapies and a professional standard of care to those seeking support for mental health and well-being.
